Overview & Summary
I graduated with a degree in Building Surveying in 1996. Initially I joined Gross Fine, the prominent firm of London Residential Property Managers, where I completed my professional qualifications, becoming elected MRICS in 1999, eventually achieving the position of Associate Director in 2001.
During my time at Gross Fine, I obtained considerable experience in all aspects relating to the ongoing repair, management, and refurbishment of small and large residential and mixed-use properties.
In 2002, I established my own Practice, further specialising in the repair and maintenance of residential properties, including apartment blocks and professional work such as Party Wall and Dilapidation matters.
In November 2003 I accepted the position of Director of Building Surveying for the Hercules Group Plc, which was later merged with Erinaceous Plc. There, I was responsible for a substantial part of the Group’s Building Surveying Services Division. Within this role, I was also formally appointed as Trustee Surveyor for a number of large and residential and mixed-use developments. As such, I regularly advised and resolved disputes in connection with building works, as well as with service charges.
I left the Hercules Group in February 2006. I assumed the role of Managing Director at Cardoe Martin (later Cardoe Martin Burr) Limited where, in addition to my business management duties I retain an active workload principally in connection with my specialised area of residential properties and apartment blocks. In addition to my residential property instructions, I have an active involvement on commercial retail projects for a large publicly listed developer client.
In April 2014 Cardoe Martin Burr Limited was sold to Rendall and Rittner Limited where I assumed an additional role of Main Board Director.
In January 2017 I formed my own sole practitioner consultancy and continue to deal with a wide range of building surveying matters including defects analysis, major works projects and expert witness matters.
In June 2020 I joined the nationwide firm of property consultants, Naismiths, in the role of Director of Building Consultancy and moved to Anderson Wilde and Harris as Director of Building Surveying Services in July 2021. In November 2021 my role was extended to also include responsibility for our property management division in the capacity of Director of Property Management Services in tandem with my original role. In September 2022 I was further promoted to assume the role of Managing Director for the company wherein I have responsibility for the running of the company’s 4 primary areas of business of Valuation, Building Surveying, Property Management and Rights of Light consultancy.
In these positions I continue to work directly on a day-to-day basis dealing with a wide range of instructions relating to normal, non-contentious project work as a Chartered Building Surveyor with particular focus on work within the residential leasehold sector. I also attend to numerous instructions relating to the provision of Technical Due Diligence work relating to high value and complex property portfolio acquisition and development propositions involving a detailed knowledge of extensive regulatory, statutory and civil infra structure aspects.
I act as an Expert Witness for Defective Building Works, Housing Disrepair, Construction Contract Disputes, Service Charge Dispute Resolution and Disrepair, Statutory Compliance as well as giving Single Joint Expert evidence to Courts and the First Tier Tribunal. I have acted as expert on behalf of both Defendants and Claimants in both civil litigation and criminal proceedings. In this context, I have knowledge and experience of the CPR and the requirements for giving Expert Evidence.
On average I sit 4 days per year as an examiner for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors assessing candidates for professional election.
I am also qualified in matters of Health & Safety, having attained the NEBOSH General Certificate qualification.
